Approximately 30 alumni and active brothers met at the A. K. Hinds University Center on January 11, 2020 to fine-tune details for our 50th Anniversary Celebration, to be held at Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville on June 26-28, 2020.
Many enjoyed lunch together at Kostas’ Restaurant in Dillsboro, and a post-planning brew at Lazy Hiker Brewing in Sylva. The get-together moved back to Cullowhee, where we were guests at the Catamount Club Purple Zone Hospitality Suite and enjoyed a win over Mercer at the Men’s Basketball Game. A highlight was verbal recognition at the Purple Zone and a display of our 50th Anniversary Logo on the brand-new Jumbotron in the Ramsey Center.

Lambda Chi took the 2019 ΘΞ/ΛΧΑ Golf Challenge by a score of 4-3. Brothers Bill Wolfe, Marty Stamey, Ray and Tripp Hughes, Mike Neal, John “Grandpa” Andrews, Bob Russell, Bobby Purgason, Jared Griggs, Dylan Riddle, Kade Roach, Logan Watts, George Wait, John Mason, Josh Brent, Mitch Treadaway, Dick Freeman, and John Griffin enjoyed a winning day against the Brothers of Theta Xi. We had a strong team top to bottom and that’s what is needed to win The Challenge. We’ll be looking to keep the Jug as we host next year. Course is yet to be determined, but as always it’ll be the third Saturday in July.
ZAX,
John Griffin, BZ 697

The ΛΧΑ/ΘΞ Golf Challenge is held in July each year. Mitch Treadaway and ΘΞ Brad Martin came up with the idea of the Challenge. Going back to our active days when we were in competition in sports, for Associates/Pledges and of course girls we had a strong rivalry with each other. Each fraternity host in alternating years, with each choosing the course during their host year. The winner of The Challenge wins a year of bragging rights and The Jug. The Jug is a copy of the old mountain jug from the WCU-ASU football game. It was designed and decorated by Buzz Hartbarger.
This year’s Challenge is being hosted by ΘΞ and will be held July 20th at The Warrior Golf Club in China Grove, NC.
The BZ Alumni Association met on February 16 in the A.K. Hinds University Center, where we began discussions on celebrating our 50th Anniversary in 2020.
We were honored to have two founding members, Wilson Boyd, BZ 1, and Gary Dills, BZ 5, who shared the story of the early days of Lambda Chi Alpha on the campus of Western Carolina University. While the fraternity was chartered in 1970, it was a two-year process from the founding of the local fraternity, Sigma Tau Sigma, in 1967 to the colonization and official recognition from the national fraternity.
Many eras of our fraternity were on hand and provided great ideas on a celebration befitting of this milestone in our fraternity’s history. The 50th Anniversary Celebration will be held at the Crown Plaza Resort in Asheville on June 26-28, 2020. Continue to visit this page, as well as our Facebook page and Google Groups email list for upcoming details.
To ensure we have working capital for deposits, etc., we encourage you to add “$50 for the 50th” to your minimum $50 dues. You may pay your dues online by clicking on the DONATE button at the top of this page. While we fell short of our goal of 100 members last year, we were within striking distance with 96 dues-paying members. We have set the goal again for 2019 to reach a MINIMUM of 100 members. You are invited to join us as we remain BROTHERS FOR LIFE!
Homecoming 2018 proved that Lambda Chi Alpha is a top-tier organization, as both our active chapter and alumni organization took honors for their support of Western Carolina University!
The active chapter was overall winner of the Spirit Week activities in which all fraternities and sororities participated. The Beta-Zeta Alumni Association was declared Overall Winner after donating the most money during the Catamount Club Greek Challenge. During the past four years, member of the Beta-Zeta alumni have raised over $400,000.00 to put Cats on the fields, courts, and tracks of Cullowhee. Congratulations Lambda Chis!
